Northern Earth #182

Northern Earth #182
Edited by Andrew Chapman
Founded in 1979, Northern Earth is the world’s longest-running journal combining interests in archaeology, folklore, neo-antiquarianism, earth mysteries, hauntology, psychogeography, and phenomenology, exploring the many ways in which people interact with place.
This quarterly magazine looks at historical and contemporary cultural and geographical environments free from agendas or beliefs. Each issue includes features and news on megalithic sites, alignments, sacred landscapes, other landscape issues, folklore, tradition, and strange phenomena.
Northern Earth’s 182nd issue contains the following features and regular departments…
Season’s Gleanings: News from here and there… plus our curated list of free-to-read research and features from other journals
Stanley Beckensall and Patricia Crowther: Two influential figures remembered
The Twelve Stations: Blind John Brown: Mark Valentine on a forgotten Victorian prophet and geomancer
Polissoir: Catherine Roberts provides a phenomenological report from Dorset’s Valley of the Stones
‘To Rouse the Spirit of the Earth’: Simon Crook on Fairport Convention and liminal topographies of the Winchester Downs
Hiding in Plain Sight: N and S Letter Reversals (2): Greg Huber continues his study of reversed letters and connects them to the Sator Square
New Troy and the Sandridge Geoglyph: Tony Rodway introduces his discoveries in the Hertfordshire landscape
Walking the Line: Ken Rigby describes his personal encounter with a Bleasdale–Round Loaf alignment in Lancashire
Having Your Say: Readers’ letters and discussions
The NE interview: Peter Ross: We discuss Peter’s new book Upon a White Horse, which he considers as the third book in his ‘fox trilogy’
All Things Considered: Reviews of recently released books
The Dodman: Whose Remains?: Northern Earth’s editor wanders afoot and finds a mysterious, perhaps saintly shrine
…all of it handsomely designed, with full-color photographs throughout.
The Peculiar Parish Bookshop has acquired 50 copies of this recent issue. We are excited to share it with you.
