Northern Earth #180

Northern Earth #180
Edited by Andrew Chapman
Founded in 1979, Northern Earth is the world’s longest-running journal combining interests in archaeology, folklore, neo-antiquarianism, earth mysteries, hauntology, psychogeography, and phenomenology, exploring the many ways in which people interact with place.
This quarterly magazine looks at historical and contemporary cultural and geographical environments free from agendas or beliefs. Each issue includes features and news on megalithic sites, alignments, sacred landscapes, other landscape issues, folklore, tradition, and strange phenomena.
Northern Earth’s 180th issue contains the following features and regular departments…
Season’s Gleanings: News from here and there…plus a new curated list of free-to-read research from other journals
The Cleobury Mortimer ‘Sheela Na Gig’: David Taylor asks when is a sheela not a sheela?
The Solar Alignment of St Michael’s Well: Heather McVey investigates an intriguing cross-shaped aperture in a Cambridgeshire churchyard
H.G. Wells and the Megaliths: Eric Fitch explores how Wells was captivated by some of our ancient sites
Oliver Cromwell and the Vampire’s Grave: Paul Brown explores an enduring 17th-century mystery in north-eastern England
Accidental Pilgrimage: Glimpses Beyond the ‘Destination Experience’: One step leads to another: Simon Crook explores a confluence of Camino connections
The NE Interview: Fiona Robertson: We talk to the author of the new book Stone Lands, which explores our relationship with megalithic sites
